I wish i knew bro, i have yet to pop the stock sucker off to see the design. My assumption would be the plastic behind as well.. looks that way. I could chop it and get it painted same time as the cap, that would be great.

For the cap probably could just scuff it and paint it. Should hold fine.
As for the intake I believe HD basically removes that black plastic covering with a higher flowing air filter and calls it their Stage 1 intake to open it up a bit. I'll PM you about all that stuff.
Got my intake covers back from powdercoating. Going to run the finned one for now I think. Probably swap back and forth from time to time.
