Hi all,

First poster here. Last bike owned was a short lived V-Star at high altitude about 7 years ago (sold it when the wife got pregnant as so many of us do). Finally a few weeks ago got the thumbs up to start looking. I used to always think that if looking at Harley's to not bother unless going for the bigger bikes. At any rate, went to the dealer looking at the Softail Slim, first demo ride in 7 years so probably not the best bike to start with. Felt incredibly smooth and stable but I live in a very rural area and it just felt like I was riding on top of a bus (maybe inexperience who knows).

Second test drive was the 48, fell in love immediately. Couldn't believe how lively it felt and so much easier to move around. No doubt more vibration and it took me a little bit before feeling comfortable over 60mph but I'm sure that will come. Still couldn't stop grinning and knew that I had to take it home. This one had ABS and Security pre-installed, added a windshield for bug control. First Harley ever and technically only second bike. Stoked to make some small mods.

Questions for you all...

Saddle seems really harsh, is that right or is it me (ride home from the dealer was 60 miles so maybe that was a bit much for first ride). Any recommendations for a more comfortable saddle with perhaps a little back support if needed?

Rear suspension, I'm around 5'7" 155lbs but dropping to about 148 (I also ride and race road bicycles). Should I be dropping the rear shock to position one on the lockring?

For the first timer what other reasonably priced and fun mods would you start with? I'd like to do pipes eventually but don't think I can yet so was thinking of smaller things that would make a difference in either appearance or comfort

Thanks!

My bike is 95% done. I say 95% because i think things will come up late but I'm really happy with the results of this creation. Let me know your thoughts.

That seat is awful. After half an hour my *** is on fire. Waiting on a redtail leather seat so couldn't tell you about a more comfortable one. You don't need a ton of money for mods. Look around here an chop cult, tons of stuff you can do on the cheap. Have fun

Thanks for the advice. Took a roll of the dice and ordered a mustang vintage to check comfort.

Will start to look around

Default My 48

My 48. A lot of work so far. Burly slammer kit, Nightster tank, 2 inch tank lift, custom seat being made now, Gauntlet Fairing, turn signal relocation, LED rear light, and much more. As for performance. Wouldn't you like to know.
