Default Aftermarket Seat Question?

Just purchased a 2002 883R and am already looking to get a new seat. I was looking at the Badlander seats but after reading that they aren't much better than the stockers I'm thinking I should shop around a little more. I really like the look of the Badlander and found a pretty good deal on one locally but if I can't ride 60mi without squirming its out of the running. Is this the case? Any opinions are appreciated. BTW, I'm 6'1" 180lbs and the wife is 110lbs and the bike has drag bars and forward controls.

Thanks in advance.

She will hate the badlander! I liked it, but when I looked at what she sat on, I couldnt argue! We went with the rallyrunner seat, but it doesnt compare in appearance!

wide mustang is the way to go for both of you...
i have had 3 different seats on the bike and this is the only one that really extends the butt time on the bike for both rider and +2.

this is the seat:

I have a mustang wide vintage seat for sale, but it wont fit your bike. The wife loved it, but for me it was to forward and low.Their seats are VERY well made. This seat is great for shorter people, or maybe people with forward controls.I am 6 foot and with mid controls it gave me leg cramps after an hour.Brett

See how opinions vary...only you and your +1 can decide what is good. My wife hated the stock seat, I loved it. Got a Sundowner seat - she loves it, I hate it but HER opinion is more valuable than mine...

Just a crazy thought--when I first rode my bike I couldn't wait to get a new seat. But while my solo Mustang seat was on back-order my shocks and springs arrived and I installed them. The difference was great, and with the stock seat the ride was so improved. Have you looked into getting those crap shocks and springs replaced? Might be something to look at when riding 2-up.

Thanks for all the replies, keep them coming.

I haven't done enough 2-up riding yet to get a good feel for the shocks and springs. I do know I can't ride for more than 45 minutes without wanting to stop to walk around.

Is there any way to get a 2004+ model seat to fit on an 02? Any other model HD seats fit the sportster?

I couldn't believe how much better mine rode with the new progressive 412's (I went with 13.5") and SE oil in the front. That might make you rethink a new seat!

As a passenger, my wife loves the Sundowner. For myself, I think I would have liked a softer seat for my bony ****. There's a reason women like that Sundowner seat that escapes men in general, (that's all I'm gonna say about it).
