I have a black Nightster 3.3 gallon tank I would trade for a black or silver 48 tank. PM me if interested.
Since I have my Roadking for longer trips and just ride my Sporty around town, the 48 tank would work for me. I guess I'm old but I just prefer the way the 2.2 gallon peanut tank looks on a Sportster.

I bought my 48 about 2 months ago... and not much money to do upgrades besides the solo saddle on hairpin springs.. so ive had alot of time to think about what id change about the 48... and it comes down to the tank.. 2.2 isnt alot. and it really hasnt affected me too much. But, i havent really wanted to say take a short 125 mile trip to the parents on it because of stopping every 75 miles to fill up. So, ive been looking for a quick or semi-quick way to swap out the tank for a trip.
Other than that.. the 48 is a great bike.
In the end... most people will change what they dont like to something they can deal with ... modifying their bike till they get it to look like and ride how they want it.. i know unless i win the lottery ill be modding for a while to get it the way i want it..
id like to see springer front end on it..just like the 48 panhead they were modeled after.
just my thoughts. .. heading out to fill the tank now..haha

I agree with you there! I have a Nightster and I love it - Realistically, I wouldn't want a smaller tank. But IMO, the whole vibe of the Forty-Eight is based on the small peanut tank. It's what makes the bike so cool. If I had a Forty-Eight I would definitely not swap out the tank.

I'm 5'9, 170lbs. I sat on an Iron 883, a Nightster and a 48. The Iron's front end was high enough that the drag bar and mid controls made my low back feel stressed immediately. I priced forward controls and mini apes. All told it was adding about $2K to the price. And that was on an 883.
There was a Nightster there that already had forwards and mini apes. Was one of the most comfortable riding positions I've ever felt. It was also a 1200. Problem was it was that black ice denim and I'm not a fan. I also hate the engine colors. It had black wrinkle, grey and aluminum all at once. Yuck. All black thank you. The Nightster already had like $2K in dealer upgrades...sigh...
Sat on a 48 and fell in love. Lowered front end and standard forwards put the strain off my low back. Agressive looks. That was it.
I bought the 48 and have been very happy.
The Iron would have been like $10500 with what I wanted, the Nightster more like $11500 as it sat and the 48 was $10500 stock.
Make sure you sit on them all and factor in riding position and comfort. It's very subjective.
