Default shifter removal.

Hi everyone.
took the shifters pinch bolt out, shifter still isnt coming out, im thinking its seized but before i start beating it with a hammer i wanna know if anyone has ever experienced a shifter that wouldnt come off. 97 sporty w/ mid controls. One more thing, manual says the pinch bolt is the only thing holding it on, someone please tell me im missing something obvious, i dont wanna have to get a blowtorch

thanks in advance guys and gals.
ps im not going to hit it with a hammer

Find a flat blade screw driver that will just barely fit in the slot on the shifter and spread it open a little. It should then slid right off.

What he said ^. Make sure when you tap on the screwdriver to force the slot open you don't bend the shift shaft. I use the screwdriver for removal and installation. Be sure when you put it back on that the pinch bolt lines up with the designated slot in the shift shaft.

maybe even a little wd-40 and a light smack with a dead blow hammer might break it loose, if any rust or ne things in there

This is just what I was going to say. I have had to do this on dirt bikes many times.
