Default what length clutch cable for 16" apes?

does anyone know? i just ordered a set off ebay. i was going to go SS with my brake lines so i was thinking of just replace the solid part of the line that mounts to the for clamp. But what are you gius doing for wiring. I assume i need to just cut ans splice right?

take a string and run it the length along where the clutch cable will go. That will give you the housing length (which is what the cable lengths are measured by). Do that with your brake line and throttle/idle cables as well. Then give J&P a call. I just got my diamondback cables through them at a pretty good price. For 16" apes, I'm thinking you will want +10" over stock, but the guys at J&P will be able to nail it down for you if you have the measurements.

As far as the wiring goes, you will have to cut and add length. Make sure you cut each wire at a different point to ensure that you don't have a huge clump where your splicing occurs. This will allow you to rewrap your wiring and maintain a smooth look rather than having a big knot at one point. My recommendation is to solder the connections and heat shrink them individually then use a large section of heat shrink over the entire section that has been cut and soldered to ensure both moisture resistance and give it more support to keep the connections from breaking somewhere down the road.

I just put 12" apes on mine. The clutch cable that came in my kit is 67". Going by that you should need a 71" cable.

im in the process of putting 16" apes on my sporty right now. i had some 8" rise narrow drags on previously and my clutch cable measures ~60" long (housing, not actual cable length). and im only looking at gettting around a 64-65" clutch cable now.

as far as the wiring, i wanted to update my controls from 93 model to 96-06 controls. so i bought the wiring kit and just ran the wires internally thru the bars down to the headlight and cut soldered inside the headlight. my wiring harness was 48" long for internal wiring and i cut off ~6-8" which still left me plenty of slack to tackle any future wiring issues i may have.

hope this helps!

oh yea the only true problem im having i guess is the throttle cables!!!

on my 93 housings the throttle cables screwed into the bottom side of the housing. but on these 96-06 housings the throttle cables wont screw in, it looks like they just "push in"??? sorry dont mean to hi-jack ur thread just looking for some quick input!

yes, they just push in. They have a spring clip built in to them.

I have a steel braided clutch cable I took off my 16"'s when I put on my foot clutch. $45 shipped if you are interested. Otherwise I would say +8" over stock. Pm or email at anubisss@yahoo.com to inquire.
