Even with just a 883 open pipes are ear piercing loud.

Hm. Well I did pull those pipes when the bike had less than 100 miles on it. Maybe that's why they weren't any louder?! I guess I'll have to go try it now! Thanks

I've been running an '07 Nightster for nearly 3 years drilling out the end of the baffles with a hole saw. No issues with tuning, no real noticeable loss of low end torque, probably because all the baffling is still there. All you're doing is drilling out the "plug" at the front end of the baffles. The exhaust gases travel down the head pipe, enter the larger muffler and expand into the baffled area. As they expand they decrease in velocity (slow down), and that means there is still some back pressure. It is less than stock because some of the gases pass straight thru, bet it appears enough expand into the baffles that it has little effect on how the bike runs.

To me, the bike sounds like standing next to a half mile oval with a buncha XR750 flat-trackers blasting by. It's not obnoxiously loud, but loud enough. I guess the sound is similar because of the free-flowing gases entering what amounts to an expansion chamber, similar to the XR exhaust system.

Pull your pipes.....Stand behind the bike about 10 foot or so........Have someone crack the throttle about half way.

Mileage wont matter.
