I would like to see pics of the apes as I am thinking of going this route. Finding a seat that sits lower and is more comfortable is a hard task. I have a HD Sidekick seat that sits lower and is more comfortable than the stock seat but I would not want to ride long distances with it. I mainly use it as my around town lookin' cool seat. I have a Drag Specialties Predator seat that is more comfortable than the stock seat and the HD sidekick.

All kinds of after market seats out there but you are crazy if you don't sit on a few before you buy. I was all set to go with the Sundowner until I saw a guy with a sportster with one on it. I asked him if I could try it out and he said "sure". Glad I did. It sits you up a lot higher than I thought. I much prefer sitting down into the bike. I ended up going with the gel/foam system for my stock seat.

BTW, a solo seat would be cool, except I'm often packing my guitar, & occasionally, a friend. After the seat, I'll be looking for a better way to pack the guitar, than bungie to my sissy bar, maybe some kind of quick release contraption. yea, I know, too much crap on the bike, no roadie, & it's my only transportation, & I ain't complainin'

The stock seat definately is not made for long trips. I went with the Sundowner and couldn't be happier. Have ridden over 700 miles in a day without a problem. I did also add highway bars and pegs to my 07 XL1200 custom. On long trips it helps to change your foot position and therefore your position in the saddle.
