Question 09 IRON cleaning...

hey folks,
I know this was probably asked before but.. i have been riding a two up
seat and now i am going to a more comfy solo seat and have to clean
up the smudges left by the two up seat on the rear fender... I haven't
tried to clean it with any industrial usual soap because i've heard that
if you use car wash with wax then the flat black becomes shiny black
which is one thing i definitely don't want... anybody have the same issue
or have had any success with a certain product... let me know and thanks
in advance for the info....

I use WD40 to clean my flat black covers and my satin black paint job. Works like a charm.

Erg.. Wd40..?? That's a little harsh even for a primer type paint.. I'm having the same issues with my rear fender shining.. Anyone else got suggestions I guess one time with wd40 can't be too bad

ok so i tried using dish soap like the manual states.... and then also tried the windex shine issue too but to no avail... also even tried wd40 and no change...
any other suggestions and according to harley the scuffs and rubs left on this type of
'denim' paint job is typical and is suppose to add character to your bike but... it is annoying me more than anything... grrrrhhhhmmm....

I just use a micro fiber towel soaked in a bucket of hot water, and a micro fiber towel/leaf blower to dry it. Works like a charm, and has kept the factory finished intact.

Well I'm pretty sure what you are dealing with isn't something that can just be cleaned off. The seat has rubbed off the paint's finish and left it dull. The bottom of the seat rubbing on the paint is no different then forcefully rubbing any other rough cloth on the paint... its not something you want to do to places that are going to exposed. You will hear a lot of guys here that switch back and forth between solo and 2up say they put a soft microfiber cloth under the passenger seat to prevent this vary thing from happening.

This exact thing has happened to me!! It sucks! I now use the microfiber cloth under the seat but it's too late really. That's life.

yeap... I got the bike with the two up seat and i guess the previous owner never really cared about it... oh well... maybe a few riding seasons and it will fade away... or install a solo luggage rack to hide it...
a few more beers and i won't notice it or won't care...

Just looked at mine and it looks ok but took the 2 up seat off and put back on the solo seat. What a bitch to get on with the fuelpak.
