thought about that also.... I have been selling some parts from a Shelby Dodge car I have. A guy offered to trade me some Harley parts including an exhaust. So when I get home from work tonight I'll put the mufflers back on.

Years ago my muffler rusted off the bike I had and I couldn't afford new pipes so I took a piece of pipe and welded a big washer on the end to give some back pressure then ground it down and painted it with BBQ paint, had it on there for years and it sounded awsome. (I could adjust the sound by stuffing steel wool in the pipe but it rusts away quickly)

Last year I ran my SE slip on without baffles in them and the bike was loud as hell, but did not sound good unless it was on idle or near red line and I did loose low end. My new pipes have small baffles in them and one feel out last week and I had to ride the bike home like that till I could get a nut to put the baffle back in. Even with one baffle out I could tell there was a lack of low end and it did not sound as good. Also the stock head pipes are just held in place by the flang bolts and they are not made to hold much weight at all-that is why the slip on's bolt to that solid cross over pipe and after market system bolt to the stock mount on the side of he front belt cover. Just get a nice set of slip on's or a nice aftermarket system and be done.
