Default Another newbie question

Okay,TELL me if im stupid and this wont work!!! i own a 09' nightster. Money is always tight with me, so i was wondering if there was a way to rig up some forward controls. My buddy here at work has a 1200 custom with controls. As i was looking at his, i thought to myself that there wasn't much to it and why there so expensive. The right side looks like it can be done just by getting the forward mount and a longer rod linkage and still use the factory foot peg/ brake lever. The left side seems like i would need a shift lever arm, a linkage rod, forward mount, and footpeg w/ shifter.

Shift lever arm = $35
Mounts =$90
Linkage rods = $$ material at a hardware store and thread the ends
Left side footpeg w/ shifter = can't seem to find

Unless your good with tools, and have the proper tools anything you throw on there may look like crap. Not to mention that they are "controls" and with that a safety factor involved.

Other than that, and you can make them cheaper I'd love to see them.
