iron 883 converted to 1200
whats up everyone i have a question: i'm purchasing my first bike, the iron 883 brand new and i want to convert it to a 1200 cc engine. The dealer said they'll do it for me with a screaming eagle super tuner, breather kit along with my desired exhaust which is the vance and hines staggers. Now my question is if this is a good deal for $2,685. Is the dealer a reliable place to have this done, or should i go to a cycle shop that specifies in this? I know of a place called rosas cycles in huntington NY. any input would be a great help in making my decision.
thanks again

for that cash get a nightster....unless you have to have an iron...just tack it on the end of the note..it'll be the same price as if you bought a nightster...but it'll be an iron 1200. from what i understand...no matter what anyone says..its some good money to do the conversion anyway. chances are your not gonna do it yourself so your gonna pay labor costs..

I converted mine for all of $400.00. The SE pistons are taiwan junk, so I got Sifton cast pistons for 200.00 with gaskets, had the jugs bored for $160, that way they are seasoned USA made parts, not taiwan, and did some cleanup work on the ports and chambers while it was apart. The rest of the coin was for misc crap, oil etc. Dont hesitate to do it, piece of friggin cake, and the power increase is fantastic!
By the way, my mileage didn't change at all, probably because I dont have to givve it hardly any throttle to maintain speed on the road! I got 60 mpg this last tank and 55 the one prior Avg so far is 56mpg!
