Default Does it or don't it?

I'm a glutton for punishment, so I went to look at a basket 1975 Sporty. The front fork says it a XLH, but in one of the boxes of parts there was a kick starter. Did the XLH have both electric start , and a kick starter? Thanks,.

Here is a Sportster history page for you, apparently electric start first came out in 1967 and the kick start was dropped in 1968.
If your looking at a 1975 it should have the gears on the left and brake on the right, first year of that.

Now I'm really confused. Owner said it was a XLH, but it has a kick starter. As a matter of fact I didn't see an electric starter in any of the boxes. The only reason I looked at it was because it was cheap. Maybe putting it all back together after buying that are missing might turn into a looser.

Depends how cheap "cheap" is, if it's under $500.00 it might be a fun winter project and even if you can't get it running you could probably sell the whole mess to someone else for $500.00.
If all goes well you just might get it running for under $1,000.00.

I wish you luck. Better luck than I'm having atleast. I picked up several basket cases that were supposed to be missing only a few pieces here & there. Out of the mess I have one running bike, 2 sitting there missing essentials & a stack of receipts that would've paid for a brand new Sportster.

Mreed, I've been thinking the same thing. I might be able to buy a new one for what it would take to put this on back together. I'm trying to get it for less then $500 and I have seen one that run for 1k-1.5k. And if it doesn't happen for me ,someone else can have the joy of spending $3,000, on a bike worth $2,000.,,
