Default forwards back to mids on a nightster

my bike came with the forwards installed and personally being short i prefer the mids with highway pegs out front.

long story short i just bought a set of mids off the site here yesterday
and was wondering if i really need to pull the front pipe off to switch it
back to the mids? and if i do have to pull the front pipe will i need any
exhaust gaskets?

i have a roll away full of tools and i just want to be sure i have everything for the job before pulling it apart.

thanks in advance

You will need to pull the exhaust to get to the brake lever rod. Get a set of exhaust gaskets. I prefer the screamin eagle ones, but the others should work fine. Get some lock tite, the job goes pretty quick. good luck.

oh to answer your question,

yes you must pull the front pipe off. You will also need to pull the bracket that holds the pipes to the bike.

I know you need 1 size (8) allen wrench for the piece that is connected to the controls and the frame. all the other sizes im not really sure about i forget.

hey Doc,
if i decide to sell them i already have one person ahead of you
but as i told him i wont be sure until i can get the mids installed
(which wont be for quite a while) and then ride it for a couple of
weeks.
either way i will keep you in mind for them if i do decide to sell.

You don't have to pull the pipe all the way off. All you have to do is unbolt the muffler from the cross-over/support bracket at the bottom and swing the pipe out of the way. No new gaskets would be needed for this. When I went from the mids to the fronts I did not take the pipe all the way off.

I've got long legs, but still prefer the mids. I have the highway pegs out front and that is the perfect setup for me.

Good luck on your conversion - I think you'll like it.

And good plan on getting your tools together beforehand!

Same here. There are gaskets for the muffler/support tube connection. They're about as big around as your thumb. I didn't replace mine and they work fine. If you put new ones in, put a coating of anti-seize on 'em first. Some guys feel that rust is nature's sealer. I like the anti-seize.
