Arrow Gear selection..?

Looking to see if anyone else has ran into this issue...I have a 2007 1200 low...@ 15000 miles on it. Had since new. Every now and then after riding a while when i stop it doesnt want to change gears...let out on the clutch a lil and i can shift... otherwise its just like its stuck between gears. Now it did this a for a short time last summer but it stopped...so didnt think much of it. But did it again about 2 weeks ago. Well I changed my clutch cable last week when installed a custom riser and now it seems to do this about every other time or so i stop. I Have adjusted the clutch inside as per the manuel and the cable to the lever @ 1/8th to 1/4 in play. Now it shifts fine and smooth... its just at a stop. And i did top off the fluid when i removed the cable... ith the bike upright... and the fluid it self seemed fine, as i changed it out at 10000. running pure senthetic. Any thoughts on what might be causeing this??? Thanks

A Harley tranny should always be downshifted to first gear BEFORE coming to a stop.

As a matter of fact, the problem as you describe it means your clutch is too good and shafts in the gearbox stop rotating. Teeth meets the teeth and that's it.

Well i haven't heard that one before..lol but I know between my 04 and this 07 iv racked up about 35 thousand miles and never came across this issue till now. Still not sure why it would be happening randomly though....

Because the gear alignment when you come to a stop is random by nature. That's why you want to select your gear before you stop, while the gears are still turning.

And what about when im still moving and it doesnt select a gear?.. rolling to stop... up or down and its just not catching...feather the clutch lever a little then press down and it may or may not catch... ?? Is it still the same issue if the bike is rolling?

My answers above are based solely on the information you supplied in the OP, which says your problem is trying to change gears after you have stopped. WTF?

How about opening the clutch cover and giving it a good kick with a sledgehammer. (Should cure your current problem and create a few new ones.)

Mine does that when I forget to downshift, both my 02 amd my 08. I do just what you said that you do, let out the clutch a bit and try again. I think it is normal.
