ok thanks doc, when i put the psi gauge on it read just under 10 psi out of the box so i assume that they will hold air but im gonna put in more psi and try again. what is the max PSI you can put in these shocks?
also i read that the air you can put in/remove is not the shock itself, it is just the rebound or pre-load or something like that and the shock cant be adjusted, can anyone enlighten me on this?

no worries man, thats what we are here for.
- as far as the max air you can put it all depends on what year your shocks came from? i believe any shocks before 2007 the max is 30psi and anything after 2007 i believe the max is 60psi. I may be wrong on this but just to be on the safe side just put up to 20psi until your able to figure it out.
- you are correct, the SHOCK itself can not be adjusted it self. The air is there to act as a rebound for load thats put on the shock. So the more aire you put in, the stiffer the ride, the more you take out the more bouncier the ride.
- Now there is a company out there that you can send your shocks to and they will take it apart and shorten the springs to your desired preference. They seal it up and put new oil in and ship it back to you. the company is http://bitchinbaggers.com/.

With some help from a post from Certainteed and some one on one communication with DocHolliday, I put on my RK's from an 07 last night on my 09 Iron. Easily done, rides like a dream, and NO oil leak. I've heard from others about the minor oil leakage, though. No one seems to have any negative impacts from it. Good luck, and ride safe.

There are lighter / heavier weight oils you can mess with but bottom line they are preloaded for a 700+ lb bike.
I don't run any air in them when I ride solo or with a rider. They are off a Ultra and they ride great as is. Night and day difference thenthe shocks you see in my sig.
Enjoy!
