Default Newb...Sportster front end Question

I just purchased a 1980 Sportster... I'm completely new to streetbikes.

I have a plan for what I want to do to the bike and the first thing I want to do is get that 40's fat front tire look with the bike.

What would be the widest front tire I could fit with the stock front end? Would I be able/have to put a wide glide front end on the bike to fit a wider tire?

I want to keep the modern suspension and not go the springer route. I'm just pricing things out right now and I'm looking at HDwheels to put on the bike.

I want to get a similar look to the new 48.
