Swapping to progressive springs on front

Put as much in as you drain out.
I remove the caps, drain the forks, do the springs, refill with 10 weight oil.
I think I got 325cc out, but don't remember.
Overfill and you will blow the seals out, which makes a real mess.
I think some info say something about 5.5 inches from the top...

I'm just slightly confused about how the springs fit in. I purchased some 11-1527 fork springs for my '04 XLC. I received the spacers, washers and springs as pictured below.
I'm not entirely clear on the order in which the parts fit in the fork tubes. Do the spacers go in first or do the springs? The included spacer is much longer than 3 1/2" spacer mentioned in Harley Scuba's post. Will I have to shorten them or will they simply fit as is? Is there a compensation spring that has to be reused also? Where does it fit in?
I realize that's a lot of questions, but I'd like to be sure about the details before I start.
I'd like to complete this changeout tonight if possible so any info will be greatly appreciated.

Did you read the directions???Every bike is different, so the spacers might be different.Take one fork apart and see what is inside, see what fits, does it work with the spring and spacer? I suspect you need the spacer since its so large....My instructions said it does not matter if the spring or spacer goes in first, but I like the spring on the bottom so the oil can get around ok.On a 2009 1200L with the regular spring kit, the spacer was about 3 inches and I added some washers so it sits up even higher. You can always call or email progressive....Brett

The spacers I received with my Progressive kit # 11-1527 seemed shorter than the pair you have. Mine were also made of PVC, not metal. Are you sure those are what came with the kit?
Did you get the correct kit in the box? I'd take some measurements of the spring and spacers you have there and call Progressive.
The springs go in first btw, tight coils down. If you put the spacers in first, you'll never be able to fish them out if you need to. The springs can be fished out with a bent hanger.

I did email Progressive and they got back to me very quickly, sending a copy of the instructions (which I already had). I also attached the photo and they said the kit appears to be correct and complete.
Lets see if I have it right...
First you drain the oil, then remove the stock spring and spacer. Next compress the fork and fill with new oil to 5.5" from the top.
Place the spring in the tube with the more tightly wound end first, then the washer and finally the spacer. Install the fork cap to compress the spacer - there should be about 3/4" to 1" of preload.
Does that sound about right? I guess I'm a little confused because the preload diagram shows the springs at the top of the tube rather than the spacer.

That sounds about right to me, but be sure to relax the forks before installing the springs.
Jack the bike up a little before removing the caps, and you have to loosen the top fork clamp bolts.
I drained the oil into a premix measuring cup, then put in the same amount of fork oil back in.
On my bike, the stock springs were under a lot of preload force, be careful!
The new progressive springs were not as bad.

I guess I'll also collect the spent oil in a measuring cup as well and use that to guage the amount. Thanks for the info.
