Anybody do the swap for progressive springs on their nightster?
I just bought the springs and ready to go at it. It looks simple enough on their video but was wondering if anyone here has done it and if its as simple as it looks or any difficulties encountered.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
peive of cake..took me 1 hr including clean up..lift the bike, drain oil, pull fork caps off use large socket with tape on the nuts so not to damage them..with nuts removed pull spacers out then springs put new ones in,add HD performance fork oil,and reassemble ..quick and easy mod that will blow your mind how much better your bike rides..if your rear shocks are stock your going to notice they suck now..
Yeah but what about the Oil ? LOL Glad to hear it went as easy as it did. Ride safe....WVleo
I wrapped the lower fork, brake disc and wheel, anywhere the oil might get to with aluminum foil, as per bmorebhoy, and it helped alot to keep the oil off.
Do these springs change the ride height? I put longer ohlins (12.5" or 13.5" can't remember) on my nightster and the rear end is better, but the front end SUCKS! On another thread someone said they used the longer rear shocks and front springs but added lowering blocks (?) to make it closer to original height. I'm gonna go look for that thread.

I've got 13" prog 412's on my rear and prog springs up front. Used a buttload of preload spacer in the front, 1.5" if I remember right but it corners on rails now, takes curves at the same speed my BMW K-100 did.....
how do I know how much oil to put in my forks when doing the progressive fork spring upgrade. It says 5.5" max but doesnt really say how much. is there a video on this somewhere?
Just put Progressive springs in my 2006 Sporty Custom this Wed evening
Thursday took a trip over 400 miles and man what a difference sure lets you know how crappy your rear stock shocks are ! Time to upgrade them
I would just go with a little less than max. Fully compress the forks with no springs and fill to 5.75" from the top of the tube. if you do this on both sides you should be close enough to balanced in fluid amount that you'll be fine.
thanks for the tip i guess it doesnt even say compressed anywhere. I am new with working on forks but am fully capable. maybe a need to pick up a shop manual
