How Tall is Too Tall?
#11
I have a buddy looking to buy a Harley and he is interested in a Sporty. He's 5' 10''. What are your experiences? From what I read on-line the wheel base and lengths are pretty much the same between the 883 and the 1200, right?
He's worried he'll be cramped on the Sporty.

At worst he might wanna put on different bars to ride more comfortably, but most swap em anyway.

I'm 6'2 with a 34" inseam. I have the sundowner seat with forward controls. The bike came with mids and I felt cramped. I do have a bit of knee bend but for the really long trips I rest my ankle over the pegs. Now the only time I really feel cramped is when I have my GF on the back as it moves me forward in the seat a couple inches.
5'10 should be no issue for him at all.

Six feet tall I am
and the top of my legs are level to the ground with Mid controls.
Plus when I add Hiway pegs I'll have Options,,better to stretch between
two than only have one position, thats one of the reasons I didn't go with Forwards.
Plus far far better low speed control with Mids cause you can weight the pegs.
And If ya see a nasty bump commin ya kin rise up off the seat on Mids.

This rider has it right. MID= superior handling control feet position. Legs take some weight off your a$$. FWDS are not as forward as highway bars with foot pegs. Highway bar with foot peg= cheaper and more leg stretch which is the primary reason people seek forward controls. They *forward controls don't create a better riding position overall.
