He's worried he'll be cramped on the Sporty.
Get fwd's on it and he'll be fine.

At worst he might wanna put on different bars to ride more comfortably, but most swap em anyway.

I'm 6'2 with a 34" inseam. I have the sundowner seat with forward controls. The bike came with mids and I felt cramped. I do have a bit of knee bend but for the really long trips I rest my ankle over the pegs. Now the only time I really feel cramped is when I have my GF on the back as it moves me forward in the seat a couple inches.

5'10 should be no issue for him at all.

I am 6'6" and just got a Nightster with mids. I am comfortable on it. I come from sportbikes though so this feels like I am stretched out.

Default 6'7"

I'm 6'7" and though eventually I'll probably put forwards on mine, still looking for a crash bar too, it's comfortable enough as is, stock.

I am 6'1" and a have a 98 xl1200 custom. I have forward controls put drag bars on and have a low profile seat and it rides like a dream. I am super comfortable. I would say the forward controls and seat make the difference. The bars are a personal preference.

Cool Six feet tall I am

and the top of my legs are level to the ground with Mid controls.
Plus when I add Hiway pegs I'll have Options,,better to stretch between
two than only have one position, thats one of the reasons I didn't go with Forwards.
Plus far far better low speed control with Mids cause you can weight the pegs.
And If ya see a nasty bump commin ya kin rise up off the seat on Mids.

You just might want to explain to you pal that he is not tall and he would probably in or on any vehicle larger that a mimi bike just fine. Or he could just go sit on a Sportster and see if he feels comfortable. Sheees....!

I'm 6'4'' on a 883 hugger, and I ride it across country. He should be fine.

This rider has it right. MID= superior handling control feet position. Legs take some weight off your a$$. FWDS are not as forward as highway bars with foot pegs. Highway bar with foot peg= cheaper and more leg stretch which is the primary reason people seek forward controls. They *forward controls don't create a better riding position overall.
