That is wierd! he means charging the air filter. after it is cleaned you have this oil that goes on the K&N air filter and it looks the same as what is on your engine.

Thanks.
I was going to suggest assembly lube but this looks more waxy than oily.

Keep us posted.

It is rather waxy. It reminds me of acrylic paint from a tube though- how concentrated it is and how it spreads when wiping it. I just scrubbed it off (most of it...it stains like a bitch) with a variety of different brushes and solvents. I guess I'll just wait and see if and when it reappears.

Thanks for all of your help and concerns.

How many miles?, have you had any service done recently?, how long has it been there?

My first thought was fork tube oil.
Second is grease from the ??steering bearing??? I can't think of the correct name but it's the part where the triple tree mounts to the frame and pivots.
The grease in mine seems to sqeeuze out a little and gum up around the bottom. some might have dropped off while riding.

Maybe it's just something you ran over that was in the road. After re reading your post, How is it on your tire, engine and air cleaner.
Seems to me...picked up by tire, distributed to A/C and engine.

K@N filters are originally white. The oil that they get soaked with is red. I hope that is all because other than that I have no idea.

Woodworking- I've got 8K and haven't had any service done. I just noticed the red stuff today.

I am thinking (and hoping) more and more that I did pick something up from the road. I just looks so much like a leak. The air filter cover has spatters of it as does the tire so...who knows how it got there. I haven't looked very closely to the triple tree...but I will. Is that grease that color of red?

Thanks.
