I don't want to waste my time with messed up gaskets or o-rings and have to reorder parts and wait on them to put the bike back together especially when there is a group of experienced Harley owners that I can ask.

I wanted to get an idea of which aftermarket companies for Harleys are good ones and which ones just sell cheap crap to make a buck. What's the point of having a forum for this kind of thing if you're only going to be ridiculed for asking a legitimate question.
I don't think I was "being a jerk" at all.

Unlike motor gasket kits where companies like James or Cometic make high performance gasket sets, the CV carb is a low tech product that is not subject to the extreme temps or pressures like the motor is, and I'm not aware of any kit that is really better than another. I'd even bet that most of the kits out there come from only a few sources.

I've purchased CV "rebuild" kits ranging from $10 - $30 and can't say that I could really tell any difference in the quality of the parts, only what may or may not be included in the kit.

But I'll grant you that what was made in the USA yesterday, may come from China tomorrow, which makes every new order a crap shoot.

I read this from an outsiders perspective. I did't see charley being a jerk at all. He was being funny in addition to giving some advice.Honestly I think you need to turn on your thicker skin firewall.

You'll find that Charley is one of the most knowledgable and helpful guys around here, specially in the sportster section. I know I have learned alot from his posts and he has helped me along with many many others around here.

One more question that I'm sure you have been asked a million times, am I looking to get the CV Performance Stage 1 Tuners Kit or the Basic Stage 1 Kit? Also, you are referring to the EZ-Just Mixture ****? Thanks.

I've rebuilt many Harley carbs and I have never once needed a kit, I have needed a vacaum piston a couple of times but that doesn't come in a kit.
You'd be money ahead to invest the money on a good 1 gal. carb soak tank so you can soak that carb overnight.

Thanks Jag. I took apart the carb the other day and all the seals looked good to me. I might just clean it up and put it back together.
