Default New H/D catalog! Urgh!

So I just got what seems to be the new H/D catalog sent to me yesterday. This may or may not be real new but, I have not seen it. So what I am trying to figure out is why does it seem that every part that I look at only seems to work for the '04 and later sportsters. It seems like majority of the parts are for older model sportsters. Also, is there any parts that will fit the 06 883 custom that they list in the catalog. Did I just by a bike that nothing fits. The sportys all seem to basically look the same but, is there just that much of a difference that I cannot get the parts I want.

For example. I want to put a sissy bar on my bike. All that are listed in the catalog only list up to '04. This includes the brakets and the bar. I know that this stuff has to fit but, why the hell can't they say that.

Example 2, the oil dipstick temp gauge says 'o4 and later in the catalog but, I have one of these and I know it fits becuase it is on my bike.

I guess I would think that H/D should update there bike dating a little better!

The dealer gave me a 2006 catalog when I bought the bike. It lists all the stuff by most recent first and then the older models underneath that. The brackets and oil temp dipstick are listed for both 04 and up and 98-03. Maybe yours isn't a complete catalog? I have noticed though that even my catalog fails to list the 1200 low in places. I occasionally have to go to the website and double check..though it seems all the custom stuff usually fits the 1200 low.

Guys. All the body work is the same Except the Roadsters tank, rear shocks, head light, bars and front tire. The accessories for 04 and up fit all of them. The Low with the mid range controls is the same as the Roadster. As far as the 883, it's just what applies to the engine's top end and jets. You'll find what you need, just research the differences.

Am I missing something here? you are complaining that '04 and later parts fit your '06? Last I heard an '06 is later than an '04.

If it's any consolation, I really like the 2 into 1 exhaust systems, but both the SE version, and the Vance and Hines 2 into 1 exhaust solutions only work on the 03 and earlier models, and neither has one that I've been able to find for an 04 or later. I'm a little dissapointed by that and I'm not sure why they don't seem to be making them for newer models.

maybe I am not understanding the lingo of H/D.

When I see 04 and later that tells me that it is 04.03.02.01!

If later means 04.05.06. then I misunderstood H/D.

I guess when I think of later I think of behind or back. So if this is not the case then it is my own stupid fault.

thanks!

It's not a prob. '04 and later means your '06 is covered. I haven't seen the new catalogs but if they've got a lot more stuff for the '04s and later, then that's something I'm going to have to get. I have the 05 catalog and it ain't got much for the 04 and later bike.

Yes, the 06 catalogs (I have both a big catalog and an update catalog my dealer gave me) have a fair amount of stuff for 04-06 motorcycles. Definately a couple of nice books to browse.

Yeah, you're misunderstanding it. '04 - Later' means after 2004, so 04. 05, 06. You're thinking it means 04 and older, it doesn't. 04 - Later is the same thing as 04 and newer.

Now go buy some parts!

As already mentioned, 04 and later means any years following 2004. ie...2005, 2006, 2007, etc. Otherwise it would list specific prior years. Aside from that there are a ton of parts available for your Sportster both from HD and the aftermarket. Most of the parts for an 883 Sportster will fit your bike, even though it may not specifically list the 883 Custom. Obviously your feul tank is different along with your speedo and a few other do dads, but for the most part everything else is the same.
