I have the shocks off of a XL883L which is 10" eye to eye. I have it set on the lowest setting and ride 2-up and it does not bottom out...for short trips anyway..
I'm pretty sure the "L" shocks are 11" eye to eye. The only 10" shocks you can get are from Lick's Cycle & maybe Burly, but I think their kit has 10.5" shocks.
The shorter you go on the shock length, the stiffer spring rate you'll need to not bottom out. As I've previously stated, I ride 2-Up all the time on 10" shocks.....Yes, the ride can get rough at times, but my GF and I can handle it....Other's couldn't handle the 10" shocks riding solo.

Eh.. your probably right. I always get 10" stuck in my head for some reason.
