yeah i use i little hand held blow torch and fine wire wool with a little brake cleaner works a treat

I tired some fine steel wool, easy-off (oven cleaner) with the pipes hot. Worked like a dream. Everything came off easy. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I had a mark from my boot a couple of days ago.. used some chrome wadding.. got it right off..
