My Brother-in-Law just went on a long ride on his stock 883. Only thing on it not stock is his windshield. He left Chicago and rode to Oregon then down the Pacific Coast Highway. He went with his 2 cousins who were on dressers. He is 6'3" and had no problems . Oh, and he turned 72 years old halfway through!
That's impressive. What model is it? I'm 6'2" and I can't imagine riding an Iron or Superlow longer than half an hour without changing seat or pegs for more room. Maybe an 883R or a solid mount would have a little more room and more suspension travel.
I've just done 1500 miles on my Sportster in 5 days and it was ok . The one thing that made a crucial difference was getting my luggage arranged so that I had a firm back support . Some slightly narrower and flatter bars might have made traveling at speed on the motorway a bit less challenging as would a mini fairing .
I did our local 500 mile challenge (22.5 hrs., no highway, mountain passes and small towns).
My tip: wear bike pants. They make padded underwear for bicycles.
I did say that I wasn't into excessive modification but I do like the style of this Sporty that I found on YouTube. Sorry , quoted the wrong post , I meant to edit my previous one above .
