Default 2 inch riser bolts

Hi everyone, i'm new to the forums and this is my first thread. I have a 2004 1200 custom. I'm using 2 inch risers i bought off ebay to mount ape hangers, but when i went to start the install i noticed that the risers weren't threaded. Instead they have a "hex bolt slot". harley doesn't seem to make oem 2'' risers, and i haven't been able to find any bolt kits specific to this on thier website or ebay. It looks like if i just find nuts that will thread onto the stock riser bolts (they are the perfect length for this) i can insert them into the slots on the new risers and everything will work fine, but before i went to the hardware store i was wondering if anyone had any insight.

thread search turned up nothing useful.

try looking at vtwin mania, they do some 2" risers where the bolt goes down through the riser with the nut going on the underside of the fork clamp, and I'm sure they supply the bolts seperatly.

i got impatient and went to home depot today. I needed slightly longer bolts and nuts to go along with them. The nuts were too tall so i had to grind them down in an arc, and i had to slightly grind down the screws, but it all worked fine. I installed them like they were intended to be. i just hope the heads don't rust soon. thank you though.

I would put at least grade 5 bolts in there. Not sure what comes from the factory, but stronger can't be bad. I got mine from my local ACE hardware, Home Depot does not carry grade 5 stuff.

i'll take pictures today and try to post them. i'm not sure what grade the bolts were, but i'm sure if there was an accident, the handlebars would bend before the bolts snapped. either way, it would be the least of the concerns in that situation. For anyone wanting to do this mod in the future, i would pay a bit extra for the ebay setup with risers, bolts, nuts, and handlebar clamp.
