Default Engine guards 2 questions

First, can I put a engine guard on a 04 Custom with forward controls ?? So far I have only seen them on Sportsters with mid controls.

Second, I am looking at the HD guard for 209.00 however I see on EBay guards for 89.00 that "look" the same. Has anyone bought one one these EBay ones, are they good are just a cheap knock off POS ???

Thanks in advance for your help Be Safe JIM

I have the HD bar on my 07 and forward controls and it looks and works out well. I have no idea about the Ebay bar's, but I can tell you the HD one is nice and solid. I have never dropped my bike, but that thing is on there with 4 bolts and is well made.

Here's the HD engine guard w/Kuryakyn Dually Iso Pegs on an 04 with forward controls.

Be careful of the cheap chrome parts like this on eBay. Much of it comes from China and has poor quality plating. You can always order the real deal on-line from Lake Shore HD or Zanotti and get 20% off list.

Lake Shore HD has FREE shipping on all orders over $100 thru this Sunday 3/07/10

I put a ebay knockoff linby bar on my sportster today. I looks good and does not get in the way of the forward controls. The :45 job advertised took all day. What a pain in the *** to get everything to line up. Had to remove the foot pegs with brake and shifter to put a plate in to attach on the bottom, and getting the swing arm from the engine to line up for the top bolts exhausted my supply of profanity learned in 20 years of being in the navy. In the end it looks good and I like it.

the engine guard is an important part and for your own saftey buy the original HD one. You don't want to total your bike coz you want to save some bucks. HD original forward contols works fine with HD original engine guard. some of the aftermarket don't. I agree with "cHarley" I don't trust those non branded ebay items. even the branded ones. I had a couple of bad experinces with Arlen Ness products.
