Most times it is battery related.
first all battery cables must be clean and tight.
battery fully charged.
pull fuse cover, a few model years had problems with condensation / corrosion, pull the fuses and relays, clean the contacts with fine emery cloth and electronic spray cleaner. coat with dielectric compound.
If don't crank now, suspect worn brushes in starter, or other mechanical problems.

Be careful when using a tender or even jumping the bike off.. I had the issue with mine and charged it up.. and it started great.. went for a 2 hour ride got to a gas station and ended up having to pop the clutch to get it started again.. that was a pretty good indication to me that the battery was shot.
