Default General sportster 1200 questions

I am about to start looking for a used sportster for my uncle and need to know a little bit about them:

1. Which model has the dual plug head?

2. When was the newest generation introduced (I know they went for several years w/ only cosmetic stuff changed)?

3. Are there any common problems associated with them, or any kind of recalls that needed to be addressed?

4. Anything else in general to look for in particular when looking at used sportsters? I have never owned anything belt driven so I need as much help as possible.

All the used ~2000 models are going for ~$6k; does this seem like a fair price?

Thanks in advance!

1) Dual plug head was the Sportster Sport. 1200S - I think.

2) 04 was the introduction of the rubber mounts, 07's will include fuel injection

3) - Nothing major that I've experienced

Do yourself a favor and look for an 04 or newer rubber mount Sportster. For a grand or two more you get a much improved bike.

This is just rubber motor mounts, correct? Does anyone make those aftermarket for the earlier models?

As far as I know, you cannot put a a rubbermount evolution motor on a non-rubbermount frame. In 2004 the motor and frame were both redesigned, before that the sportster motors were part of the frame structure.

There's more to it than that. Stiffer frame, etc on the rubber's.

XL OCD is quite right... there were a whole lot of changes made in '04, not just the rubber mounts.
