To dyno or not to dyno thats the question
Whats up all,
I have a question on what to do after replacing my exhaust and air intake.
I decided to change both at the same time so i bought a Powercomander V so i can remap it, any way my question is if i install the powercomander with the settings for my set up do i have to get it dyno'd. If i don't have to do it I would love to keep that 250 bucks in my pocket. Let me know what you think.

A Power Commander, Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT), etc., will give you an increase in power if you use the recommended download, but all bikes are different and a 'canned program' won't give you the best results.
For example;
My 100th Anniversity Softail FatBoy has what most would call a "Stage 1" (Screamin' Eagle high flow intake and exhaust), and it also had a Screamin' Eage Race Tuner (SERT) installed.
When the SERT was installed the 'recommended' download was also done.
There was a noticeable increase in power, but when my Harley mechanic friend put it on the dyno and did a complete dyno-tune it ended up putting an additional 8 horsepower to the rear wheel.
Dyno tunes are well worth it as long as it is done by someone that knows what they are doing..

A dyno tune can be a two sided coin.....sometimes you need it even tho you selected the closest map possible but for some reasons you have issues with decel popping or flat spots, and/or poor fuel mileage.....
Even then, you can waste your money if your tuner lacks experience.
You are going to spend at or abouts 250 bucks each session, so shop for the shop that has the best reputation and can relate fully with whatever fueler you are using. Most shops today run Dynojet dynos and are set up to plug into your dynojet fueler equiped scoot...Some of the dealer dyno's are mostly oriented towards HD's sert or sest and can only help you with those installs....but no shop will turn you away if they think you are willing to pay while they learn.
Consider your selection of dyno tuners like you would doctors. some are quacks.

There will be no noticeable difference in the sound of the bike. Unless you are talking about decel pop which is supposed to be cured by a good tune, but thats only on carbed bikes. With fuel injection there is no fuel going into the motor when you close the throttle and the engine is above idle. To change the sound of the engine at idle, acceleration, and cruise you would need to change the cams, compression, or both.

Question?
I just dynoned my 2010 fxdc and I put the following on
1. Thunderheader exhaust
2. S.E. Heavy breather
3. Powercomander
The results were:
75 HP
98 TQ
I dont have the stock #s yet to compare it with the stag 1 mods and I have not picked the bike up from the shop so I have not tried it out. So now to my question!
Is this a "Respectable" gain in power?
I believe the stock #s are
65 HP
75 TQ
THANKS

Those are very nice numbers for nothing more than intake/exhaust and a Power Commander....
