It's 75w90 gear oil.

I am surprised that nobody mentioned the antifreeze.

If the derby cover has not been removed before, the torx screws will be a wee bit tight. You will need a torx T27 driver for the original screws. Plenty of info on the board for removing stubborn derby torx screws. Good luck.

I've never replaced those gaskets. I do recommend a bit of anti-seize compound on those derby cover screws. You will appreciate it the next time you want to remove the derby cover.

Also take care to not disturb the gasket in the derby cover. Actually, it's called a quad ring. Those can be a REAL PITA to get back in place.

And it does not go in the oil tank, it goes in the trans where it came out of...

I'm a little confused on this. The owner's manual says you use "Formula + Transmission and Primary Chaincase Lubricant". Yet the bottle of "Screaming Eagle Syn3" also states it can be used for the transmission which is the oil behind the derby cover. So, that Sny3 is 20W50 so how is it also 75W90?

There are many opinions, and threads about this subject. You can spend days reading it all. Or you can put pretty much anything you want in there and it will be fine. I use the 75W90 synthetic Walmart brand. 20W50 motor oil is fine too. Syn3 is fine, but you can get better stuff for less money.

i know its an older thread but i have to say either i missed something or someone needs to say you don't open your derby cover when the bike is leaning on its kickstand. it needs to be level or you'll loose fluid which doesn't matter if your replacing it but it does matter when you refill it if the bike isn't level when you refill it you'll be short on trans fluid. if I'm wrong someone please correct me
