Default Hi all

I just recently purchased a Sportster as a project to convert to a minimalist bobber. I have been perusing the site. There is a ton of great knowledge on this site. Thank you.

With that said I would like to tap into that knowledge. For all those that bobbed there sportster. What are some of the traps that I should be aware of that you learned during your project?

I am undecided how to tackle the shocks thing yet. I know I'm going to a rigid frame. I like the price of the bolt-on/welded solution. I don't know if I trust that as much as completely rebuilding from a new frame.

Also, what are some of the solo seats that use guys like for the sportster. I really dont want to have to battle the bike to keep from not riding between the seat and the rear fender because the rear lip isn't strong enough. Know what I mean?

Those are just a couple questions. More over I am just interested in tapping into the experience of you riders before me and what you learned from your projects.

Thank you in advance for your input. I hope I can soon be a contributing member of this wonderful forum.

Jeremy

Welcome from the Holy City. You really need to narrow down what you want to accomplish. Maybe make a list of what mods you want to do and what they cost. that way you can budget and figure out which are the most important to you and what you can afford. Year and model are also important.

@gijim: I guess year and model would have helped

It is a 2006 1200 Custom.

@ SauerKraut: I am going to convert the bike to a rigid from and do a solo seat first. After that I want to do a bobber rear fender. Then pipes. Then a smaller gas tank. Then the oil pan. There are other little things but that is the order of the bigger pieces.

There is a lot of chrome on the bike that I am planning on pulling off. I want as little as possible on the bike. I plan on running it with the bare minimum.

I just bought a solo seat I need to find a solo seat mount kit. The only one I have found is
http://www.tejasthumpcycles.com/Part...solo_seats.htm

I am unable to purchase from this website. I don't know where any other ones are that would work. If anyone knows...

Thanks again for the responses.
