My local indy shop painted mine about a year and a half ago and I've had no issue at all. All my covers were powder coated, but the jugs etc. were painted.
Stupid question, did you have to take everything off and apart? If so, for us newbies, how long did it take? Tired of trying to polish my dead aluminum all the time. Looks sweet!
I taped them ALL, a buddy of mine was there so he helped me out so it didn't take to long. That would be a good idea with the black iron paint.
I used this trick when I was painting engine blocks, rear axles and stuff on custom cars:
You go out to home depot or similar and buy about 2 feet of various sizes of thin wall tubing. Then you cut about an inch off, stuff it over the nut. You can stuff kleenex or ?? into the open end so you don't get spray down the tube. Works like a charm.
not so well on pan head bolts etc but if it's a hex head or a cap screw? You're good to go.
Job looks awesome! There's a woman in town who has a 883 who saw my nightster and wants a black engine. I'll send her here and she can read up on it. I told her I'd give her a hand if she wanted......
