(kind of like how the 1968 vettes had problems because it was the first year of the restyle)?
That makes no sense.

Everyone knows they quit making vettes after 1967.

I just saw a 1200 Custom 06 that was black cherry pearl, and was loaded and had 8000 miles for $5500.00. Last year when I was looking, the same bike was about $7500.00. At the place I was at, just looking, they had several good looking sportsters with low mileage for no more than $6000.00.
I got a 2007 1200C with only 4k miles for $6000, just to give you a good point of reference.
Where are you guys finding Sportys in this price range? Are these typical for a 1200 Sporty?

Default I would stick

With the FI rubber mount for rideability. You could buy the 09 Nightster I have has 77miles on it. I not making any great deal on it. But if you are going to ride it all the time. Get the EFI. For coolness, get an old Ironhead, spiff it up and go like Hell.

+1 on fuel injection, but seriously if you are going to buy used and are concerned about aftermarket parts. 1980's-2003 year models seem to have the most options and availibilty. You don't know how frustrating it is to see something badass for your bike only to see it only fits 06' or older bikes, when your's is an 08'

I bought my '05 Sportster 1200C brand new. Have had no problems with it, no leaks, I love the '05 and '06 model years. They are carb'd but that gives them that "old school" feel. Carb's arent bad at all, with the exception of that extra 2 mins of warm up time on a cold day. Keep in mind, I live in Florida so we don't get much cold weather here. There was a time back in '06-'07, no one wanted an FI Sportster and everyone made a big stink that the MoCo switched over to FI.

If the bike you're looking at was well maintained, you should have no problems. As far as price, that's a tough one. Prices seem to be all over the road lately and depends a lot on where you live, the market and demand. $5k seems reasonable if it's a low mileage bike with some mods that are useable to you. Good luck.
