from 25 mpg to 60 mpg - wow!!
took my first "road trip" this past week and was expecting to have to stop a lot more often for gas than i actually ending up needing to.
have had the bike for a year and a half and had never been on the freeway- all around town riding (i live in a very big town so i can get long rides in here).
decided to take my first freeway ride on 1/1 cause the traffic is light then.
i kept thinking that something was wrong with my fuel light cause it usually comes on about 50 to 60 miles (4.5 gal tank and that stupid light comes on at 2 gallons used), and i was around 100 miles and no light. so i stopped for gas and took less than 2 gallons!
kept track for a coupla fill ups and was getting 55/60 mpg on the big road (pretty much all 5th gear riding).
can not believe how stop and go and "getting on it" (ride it like you stole it) type riding eats so much more fuel. but, hey i am not complaining! just amazed at the difference.

I can sometimes still manage close to 60 mpg at 60 mph on a very warm day on secondary roads. But on the interstate at 65 mph and up, I'm lucky to get 50 miles to the gallon. I've got some different gearing to try, but if my Dyna can average over 53 mpg on a trip, then my Sporty should too. I get 40's in the city riding.
I guess having SE 10.5 to 1 pistons, SE A/C and SE pipes contributes to the poor mileage, but it runs!

yup- prob cause i ride it like i stole it...
that combined with my fuel settings- it is set richer than normal with my fuel controller. which is surprising that i could get such good mileage on the road.

Out on the highway my 2005 1200C Sportster get around 50 MPG, and that's not bad when you consider the cams I'm running flow quite a bit more fuel than the standard setup.
Just for comparison my 100th Anniversity Fat Boy (with Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner and a good Dyno tune) gets about 48 MPG.
I even get around 45 MPG with my 100th Anniversity Wide Glide, and it's putting out 96 horsepower and 102 pounds of torque to the rear wheel.
But I'm a pretty conservative rider and don't make many 'full throttle runs'...
