Default Junkyard?

I've been trowing around the idea in my head for about a year now.. That I really want to build a bobber, copper, something.. (Got to love quiting smoking.. I figure getting back into working on stuff will keep my mind off of it. ). but I dont want to take my 95 annv. and mess with it.. so I'm thinking about going to a junk yard and getting a Sportster frame first and going from their.. im thinking the same year that I have because I want the same engine.. and its carbed.. anyone see this as a bad idea.. anything would be great to help me out..

thanks guys
J

Could not think of a better way to quit as long as you have the time and the $. I, however, would probably buy a decent, used sporty before going to the yard.

My issue is.. for me and my wife its easier to spend a little here and a little there .. then all at once.. if that makes any since.

but I will keep that as an option.. thanks..

+1 on getting a runner first then chopping, unless you are super mechanically inclined...

Chances of getting a frame that is not bent or twisted are very low. That's usually the reason that bikes are junked.

Of course you do still have the option of converting your current bike into a rocket.

No law against building onto your existing bike, especially in winter.

Play it safe and try to find something (frame or roller) with a title.

Thats more in my price range.. I'll have to give that a try.. I was kind of worried about the possibility of the frame being bent as well..

got a buddy who walked into a friends garage and seen a sporty sitting on a shelf (yes a shelf) he asked what they were doing with it. the guy said it was his dad's and he wants to sell it for 3 something. He never had the 3 grand but told him to give his dad his number. The dad called and told him he will take what he had in it. $300.00. The money came out of his pocket so fast it was smokin. The deals are there, just got to find them
