Default Damn. Just stripped the O2 sensor. What would you do?

In the process of re-wrapping my shortshots, I stripped an O2. It loosened up easily enough but it seized up about 1/2 way out (for whatever reason). I went back and forth with the wrench to clean up the threads but to no avail- they're jacked-up now. Should I purchase new sensors or just crank 'em in? Re-tap the pipes and/or die the sensors? Anyone know what size they are...5/8, 3/4?

Thanks.

If the sensor isn't too jacked up you can probably tap the pipe and die the sensor. if you force it in, you could jack both of them up beyond repair. Good luck man.

You're not alone, for some reason many of these were factory installed dry, if you are able to get it off, definately put some antiseaze compound on when reinstalling.

One other alternative is to buy a new bung and have it welded in. Just take care to place it in same location and at same angle as the old one.

Don't think a helicoil will work..........Reason being, on V&H pipes for some reason the bungs are only threaded just a few threads, then the interior of the bung increases in diameter to where there is no metal left to cut threads for the helicoil.

Don't know why V&H makes them like that, but noticed it when I installed my pipes and made sure to apply lots of antisieze and not overtighten them.

If the pipe is OK which it probably is you can redress the threads on the O2 sensor with a small file, you can buy small sets of small files from a lot of places, this does work, I had the same thing happen when I changed my Rineharts out for a Fatcat on my RK.
Damned dealership didn't put any antisieze on when they installed the pipes.

Thanks jag, that's just what I did. After checking with 4-auto parts stores and an indy cycle shop I realized that an 18mm tap and/or die just wasn't to be had. The threads cleaned up pretty well it went back in. It was a little tough but it works. WTF just realized I forgot the anti-seize! Back out they come.
Thanks for all the advice everyone.
