Dealership Pricing

Dealership Pricing
I'll start off by saying I am noob 23 year old that is looking into getting my first bike. I went to the dealer this weekend and put a deposit down on 2010 Iron to be delivered in the spring. What I am wondering is how low the dealer will generally be willing to go on the price of a new bike. They wrote up a preliminary bill of sale so they could order the bike and the price after all the fees and everything was considerably higher than I had expected. With the security option, the base price was 8369, then they have dealer prep and freight at 899, which brings it to 9268. Taxes in PA came to 556 and then registration and all is 389. This brings the overall price to 10,213. I am new to this, but that is quite a bit more than I was expecting for fees on top of the price of the bike. I was hoping you guys could give some insight into about how much you ended up paying for your bikes and how much I should be able to negotiate off of that price. Thanks

find out two numbers.
invoice price
out the door price
someone on here should be able to give up both numbers.
work from there.
i will tell you that i was involved in buying a nightster 1200 last year, and i paid about that for the 1200.
shop around. once you know the numbers... be willing to walk away, or just pay what they ask and enjoy the bike.

Try to find a used iron, lots of people buy then can't afford. You will save 2 or 3k.
Dealer handling 899 ouch,
used will save on taxes and registration also.
I just purchased a 2006 1200 Roadster (blacked out engine) with 600 miles for just over $5000 oh yea it is not efi, that is worth something. The nightster and irons are very cool though. Good Luck

If you're set on buying new than get your deposit back from that dealer and keep looking, or at least haggle with them a bit. That dealer prep/freight fee is absolute bs. Tell them you aren't paying it. That's the first thing I get the dealer to take off when I'm buying a new bike. I've never had to pay prep/freight on any new bike, and never will.
I paid 9k otd here in california when I bought my '09 Iron in March. That was with 8.75% tax too. If I would have accepted the first price the dealer gave me, I would have been paying almost 11K otd! That's ridiculous! I think 9k otd is still a bit much for this bike, but I felt that was the best I was going to do since almost all of the dealers I went to weren't getting an iron in for at least 3 more months. Don't be afraid to walk away. Go there with a price in mind you're willing to pay and don't accept the dealers first offer. Good luck!

I know it's not an iron, but I just picked up an 07 1200 low in black with 2,900 miles and 1,500.00 worth of parts plus an additional 4 year warranty for $4000.00 from a private seller. The market is bad right now in todays economy for bikes. Plus I live in the Western part of upstate NY-snow storm outside as I type this. Just saw a 2006 Dyna on Craig's list for $6300.00 with some options. For that type of money you could have a bike shipped to you for $6-700.00 and still have a nice ride.

Your msrp base bike sounds about right. It's all the other crap they're screwing you on.
I found my 09 Iron with 140 miles by going on Craigslist every morning and entering Iron 883. Took me about 3 weeks, but I got it for $6500. The $2-3K savings goes a long way towards the fun part of doin the Iron.
