Default ape hangers on a 1200 custom

I have a 2005 1200C that I would like to put apes on eventually. For anyone who has done it, what did you use to get rid of the bent back riser /speedo on a custom? Can you send me some pictures? I am looking at maybe the 16" narrow glide bars from Licks Cycles. I am new to Harleys (3 weeks) but I have a picture in my head of what I want the bike to look like some day. Any help would be appreciated.

Lots of good information can be found here:

I just searched for "ape" in the Sportster section, so that you can find as many useful threads as possible.

The problem with the Custom is the odd-assed speedo mount and idiot lights incorporated in the riser.....Same for the Nightster/Iron.....My solution was to buy the Joker Machine speedo relocation bracket, then go from there.

There are several other ways to relocate the speedo and idiot lights. Many here have done all that and you can search around to see which ideas you like best.

I've seen it all done when modding the Custom. One guy went with fatbob tank and dash with speedo in the dash, another went with peanut tank and Joker Machine bracket.

I have a 06 custom, I used Sportster low speedo housing and risers with 12in. mini apes. Cost me about 600.00 for bars, housing, and cables. I like it! check out my album for pics.

Dlish, got more pics of your scoot? Also how's the ride with shocks and seat springs, bouncy or smooth?

I looked at your pic. That is exactly the look I am looking for. My daughter's boyfriend owns a paint and body shop. My blue bike will be black with silver ghost flames soon.

I like your set up. Would you happen to still have the part numbers of what you used. I went to the dealership and got a quote for $250 just for the speedometer mounts.

Will, if you have the top clamp you will need back plate and gasket for the rear. The front gasket from the custom will work. Now for the specifice part #'s and pieces needed. This is for an 06 with incandescent bulb(not led) idiot lights. The two #'s for screws, one is backplate and one is bezel for warning lamps. Sorry don't remember which was which.

#3605 Riser bolts 2x$1.99=$4.00
#6590HW Riser bolt washer 2x3.99=$8.00
#56116-82A Handlebar clamp lower left 1x19.99=$20.00
#56117-82A Handlebar clamp lower right 1x19.99=$20.00
#2325 Screw 2x1.99=$4.00
#2361 Screw 2x.99=$2.00
#68513-95 Bezel warning lamp housing 1x2.99=$3.00
#68516-95 Housing, warning lamps 1x11.99=$12.00
#68551-95 Warning Jewel 1x18.99=$19.00-->Almost crapped myself, this is the little colored lens.

This is from another thread, I traded to get a top clamp from a nightster. Went with 14" Burly Narrow Glide Apes and install kit.
