Flatlander thanks for the info. Much more helpful then the dealer. I told them what I had and what I wanted to do. They looked at me like I was from Mars. I even showed them on two brand new bikes what I was looking for and they still kept trying to sell me the wrong stuff. How hard was it to change the idiot lights over? Was it just pulling the bulb socket from one and push it into the other or just plug it in?

The idiot lights are plug and play. Just be gentle, they are snug and the bulbs are little and fragile. If you go to my profile I have several pics showing the difference in the parts between the custom and the low/nightster parts.

I have 14" narrow apes with the stock risers. The hide the fact that it's a pull back I have a bag strapped to it. Works like a charm.

Im thinking of getting the 14" burly narrow apes. Arent they too high? im 5' 6". Just above the shoulder? From what I understand is if im gonna replace my stock handle bar from my 09 custom im gonna need a new speedo housing ( can get one from a "sportster low" housing), 1 inch risers be ok?, then get the burly cable kit(replace 3 cables). Thats all i need right?

I replaced the bent back riser with 1" risers and 1200L speedo mount. I'm 5'7" and used 16" burley narrow glide apes. They fit me fine and I really like the ride now. The crash bar in the pic is gone now.

deepsea, nice bike!!! I think 16" would be too much for me. Im even having second thoughts on the 14" ones. Im thinking of 12 or 14" max height. how hard is it to maneuver? Where did you get the 1200L speedo mount & 1 inch riser? how much it cost you? Dont I need to replace the wirings for the signal light, headlights, etc? since its gonna be a higher handle bar?

"16 inch bars place my hands right at shoulder height, maybe a hair higher. High bars really make your back feel better on long rides. If you can, sit on bikes and see what feels best to you. I was able to sit on some customized bikes and get a feel for it.

I think all the parts were ordered from J&P Cycle. It wasn't cheap. With all the parts, longer braided cables and labor (had carb rejet and air cleaner too) it was$1200. Much better ride though. I have gone as far as 400 miles on it in a day so far and was ready for more but decided to drink all the beer in PC Florida in a week instead.
