Default California Model Specifics

Can I buy an XLN Nightster from out of state and title it in Cali? It is a 2008 model, and I didn't know if there were still emissions or other requirements for CA models only for this year or if I could buy aything and bring it in.

To add to this question....What if I relocate to CA? I am entertaining discussions with my company moving me to CA in 2010. My Sportster only has 3500 miles. Will it cause any problems for me?

Try looking on the web page for the DMV for California.

Only if the Sporty is a garage queen. You live in FL, no excuse for not riding 12 months a year and putting some miles on it.

But then, I wouldn't move from FL to CA unless my salary was tripled.

It is a garage Queen. I find myself riding my Softail much more than the Sporty. But I like my Sportster so much that I just couldnt part with it. I did however, take her for a 130 mile ride this past Sat....what a joy riding a bike that has attitude compared to the Deluxe, which is more ho hum....

It will not be a problem if you relocate here in CA. Our DMV screws residents that try to
bring non CA bikes into the state. If the DMV makes you run it past the Highway Patrol
for inspection, it better be stock - DOT exhaust, vapor canister, etc.

Man that sucks! I was pulled over Saturday for my license plate and got a written warning. He said it looked cool though and even said he liked my exhaust (which is damn loud). Other than the weather, I like Indiana.

You will be fine bringing whatever bike you already own if you are moving here. You just can't be a resident and buy an out of state bike with less than 7,500 miles on it. I moved here 7 years ago and brought my bikes from PA and the only trouble I had were the PA license plates. I got pulled over 3 times (same cop the first two times) my first week here and was told to get my California plates right away or I would get a ticket. I never had to get the bikes inspected.
