Default ditch the speedo?

so i want to clean up the front of my 09 nightster and get rid of the speedo but i really dont want to relocate it next to the tank. i just think it sticks out and looks funny. but i guess i have to have one to keep track of my mileage. does anyone know if i can use a really small aftermarket speedo for mileage or is there some sort of plain odometer i can use?

ya don't need one man

they really aren't that nessasary. what i used to do was see how many miles i get outta one tank before i took the speedo off, then just keep track of my tank fills. thats easy enough. now i just don't worry about it. i put syn in there and change my oil probely every 3-5 months.

i am however carb'd, so when i run outta gas i just switch over to reserve and got 20-40 miles before i run out....not sure if ya need somethin on the efi modles

yeah old skool i was thinking just eff it and run without, but 1. no reserve on the efi. and 2. the bikes brand new and i dont know if there will be a warranty issue with inaccurate mileage.

and 09flhtc i thought about just getting the smallest one with an odometer and mounting it down near the case, but is the stock one cable driven or just electric? probably a stupid question. ha

The stock HD Speedometer/Odometer unit is an electric system, not a cable driven mechanical system. You might take a look at some of the Dakota Digital units. They have some cool stuff that will plug and play with no problems. You also might want to look into mounting the Speedometer into the tank like HD does with their Low Rider set up and have something really Custom/One-of-a-kind made for your bike. Remember, with enough money, you can do just about anything you can think of. Good luck with you project and ride safe out there!

Harley will void your warranty for problems with Harley parts that they install. you can count on your warranty being voided if you do anything with the speedo. i heard, from a harley mechanic i know, of them voiding a warranty when a trans went out because the guy removed the speedo to give it the exact look you are talking about.

Stock HD speedo is completely digital, and tied into everything. How are you going to pull the fault codes when the ECM complains? Do the aftermarket minis provide that too?

ok well i definitely don't want to void out the warranty, does anyone know a part # for the clamp that most people use to relocate the speedo?
