Moisture and my speedo
Rode my hog over to the lady's house last night and it got rained on overnight. Hopped on it early this afternoon, and my speedo was reading way under my actual speed. When I was cruising at about 50-55 it was reading somewhere around 35. I'm wondering if it was the rain that's causing this and if it should be fine after it airs out a bit. I'm assuming the speedo is purely mechanical, I can't think of how moisture would affect it....

Try running a diagostics test on it: with your ignition off, depress the trip button on the back of your speedometer, while depressing it,count to ten. Then while you are still holding the button, turn your ignition on but not the motor. with the key on, release your finger from the button and you will have your odometer change to diagnostics codes which will rage from "clr-01-10" or it'll read "set 01-10" IF it says "set" this means you tripped a code "clr" means there is no code. every time you depress the button, you'll run through them numbered "1 to 10" with those three little letters in front of the number. If no code? you more than likely just have a slight "air" leak in your speedometer. It should be fine even if you use a hair drier to dry it out. When condinsation builds inside water can get on the plug in inside the speedometer.

As Steve said, your speedo is electronic, not mechanical. Moisture getting in the speedo is no new issue. I've had the "wrong speed" issue happen to me also a few times. It was fixed by pulling off to the side of the road, turning the bike off, and simply restarting the bike. No codes were ever set.
