I'm changing the grips on my 2003 sporty xl883c . Someone told me I had to cut the grips off in order to put the new ones on , Is this true? If not how do you accomplish this task. I TOLD YOU ,YOU WOULD GET A CHUCKLE!

You have to cut the left grip off, and it's accomplished with a knife.

Technically, you don't have to cut off the left grip. You can try some other tricks to get them off but they are time consuming and involve man handling. I would just cut it off and be done with it.

If you get a set of glueless grips you won't have to cut off the left grip.

Throttle grip isn't glued on, that's why you can twist it. It comes off after you take off the right switch housing.

boiling water poured over the grip expands the rubber, and then brush "Goof off" around the bars where it meets the grip and it will pop right off.

I used a screw driver to work it off. it took all of 5 minutes. then used a little shoe goo to keep it in place.
