Default 883 to 1200 conversion?

My wife has a 94 883 with 34,000 miles on it. She is wanting more power. I have offered her a new bike but she also wants new furniture, carpet, and washer and dryer. I can not afford all four items this year. She loves the current bike and it is set up well for her. Can anone give me an idea as to the cost of doing the upgrade to the 1200? I could probaby do the work myself, but due to all of the traveling I do for work, I would have the local shop do it.

Thanks,
Mike

To have it done it's usually $1000 give or take 200.

If I were to do it again, I'd do it myself and go with the NRHS 1250 kit.

Don't know. But I've seen where quite a few people have hit 100hp's w/ the 1250 kit, and very few w/ the 1200. Just enough to hit the magic number I guess.

We do 883 to 1200 conversions. There are a couple ways to do them. The easiest and most cost effective way is to run the HD reverse dome pistons. Bore the stock cylinders. Port the heads. Change the ignition module and rejet the carb. This can be done for under $1000 typically, plus labor for installation at a local Indy shop.

If you are looking for HP kits, try:

Sportster 883 to 1200 kits are do it yourself,
get the parts and bring it to your shop,
Or, if you prefer, Zipper’s can build the complete engine using new, top shelf components such as Red Shift cams, Pro-Flow oil pump, Bandit clutch, Zipper’s ignition and back-cut Andrews transmission, ThunderJet G2 carburetor and more. Delivered test run and ready to install.

The salesman at Manchester Harley told me they do them and recommend using Buel parts. That way the motor not only gets upgraded to a 1200 but it also gets some of Buel's performance upgrades. He told me it'd cost with parts AND labor around 2 grand give or take and that includes paying the "tax" on the upgrade. And you'd end up with much more performance then buying a 1200 factory stock. I don't own a Harley right now [&o] but will soon . To save money I'm considering buying an 883 custom, keeping it for the rest of the season and having it converted over the winter. In the long run it'll save me a few bucks AND i'll end up with more performance then a factory 1200 ... or so I'm told.

Anyone agree or disagree with what I BELIEVE the salesman told me? I'd love to know!
