how did you prep the metal parts?? did you sand it? i know the texture is rough already, but not sure if paint would stick to it very well...

There was not much preping needed. Like you stated it was textured and you couldent sand it. So I just made sure it was clean. (I used brake cleaner) Taped it off and sprayed it. Only time will tell if it sticks, but there is not much wear on these parts that are painted.

Mine has held up great so far! Of course it has only been about 10 months, but no problems yet.

This is going to be a winter project of mine. Always wanted the engine black. But a question came up today as I was telling a friend about this. It is an air cooled engine. So wouldn't the extra coat of paint make it run hotter?

No the engine does not run any hotter. as a matter of fact the Iron comes with a black motor.

Thanks. The thought was an extra coat of paint equals and extra coat of protection causing it to run hotter. Color won't make a difference I know but with the extra coat I was just thinking.
