my brother in law has a 1992 1200 sportster he had the oil changed at a dealer and it was way overfilled and started dripping oil out of the lil filter above the carb, took it back to the dealer they changed the oil again cleaned the bike up but now its still dripping outta that little filter when you overfill your oil does it damage something that would make it continue to leak oil?
+1 with freebird but remember if a filter has gotten saturated with oil it will take some time to blow out all the excess oil, tell him to take her out on the freeway and run at high speed for a bit then clean it up and he should be good to go.
agree... and he should wear some old jeans that he does not care about - pretty likely to get the right leg oil splatted... while blowing out the excess.
the key was mentioned above = dont fill the oil in a sporty over half way or so. i usually keep mine about 1/4 on the dipstick.
Also, especially with the EVO based Harley engines, stay away from the crappy 10 micron (or worse yet the newer 5 micron filters) that they will try to insist on using.
Go with either the 'long' or 'short' 30 micron filter which was designed to be used on the EVO's. I run these on all my Harley's, even the TC models.
