Default Question concerning triple tree integrity...

Hey all! This question is geared toward Drag Specialties part number 2020-0347 (Front turn signal relocation bracket).

Well... I ordered that exact relocation bracket for my 09' Nightster and it looks like it's gonna fit and look sweet as hell, but then I got to thinking...

Beings this bracket requires the removal of the bolt that pinches the fork tube out of the triple tree and then the relocation bracket is put in it's place then a longer bolt is then put through the new turn signal bracket THEN into the tree... won't that weaken the integrity of the pinch??? I mean, the pinch from the top and lower tree is all that holds the tube in place, right???

My concern is that the pinch won't be as firm with the relocation brackets interfering and the tube may slowly work it's way out of the tree or worse yet, a pot hole could end in a disaster...

Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I hope someone could shed some light on this for me. Thanks all for your replies in advance!!!

There is nothing to worry about as long as you torque the pinch bolt back to the proper spec.

You DO have a torque wrench, right? BTW, the torque spec is 30-35 ft. lbs.

Thanks for your reply Charley, Yea I have a torque wrench. Should I jack up the bike to do this mod beings I'm gonna be removing/ reinstalling those bolts or is it safe to do on it's kickstand?

I'm asking because I don't have a bike jack...

Yes, you can do it on the ground, just do one bolt at a time.

It's common on a lot of bikes for the manufacturer to hang **** off the fork pinch bolts. Usually it's cable brackets...
Torque it and go ride.

I've got those same RSD bars in chrome on one of my other Sportsters. They are kickass.

Get yourself the extended switch wire kit and run the wires inside the bars and you won't regret it.

Check out HD's smoked front turn and visor kit. It includes smoked lenses, orange bulbs and extended visors for like 30 bucks. It really tones down those ugly brite orange front turns. I just added them front n rear to my new Iron, but no pics yet.
